"The
Tweed is a beautiful river throughout its length and the scene at Union
Bridge is nothing less than idyllic" (Edward Grierson
: "The Companion Guide to Northumbria" : Collins) So, We are five miles from the historic walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed and the Northumberland Heritage Coast. The Holy Island of Lindisfarne, the Farne Islands, Bamburgh Castle, the fishing ports of Eyemouth and Seahouses, St Abb's Head Nature Reserve, the Tweed Valley and the Border towns of Jedburgh, Kelso, Melrose and Selkirk; the Cheviot, Eildon and Lammermuir hills are all within easy reach and the Tweed Cycle Way runs by our gate. Fishing on the Rivers Tweed, Till and Whiteadder; Tweed walks in all directions; Paxton House - possibly the finest Scottish Palladian house, with an outpost of the National Galleries of Scotland and a working salmon netting station just over the Bridge; our neighbour, the famous Chain Bridge Honey Farm and visitor centre up the road ....we can offer all this and much more....but come just to see our magnificent Bridge and the idyllic views from it - Europe's first and oldest surviving suspension bridge carrying road traffic....look for the intertwined roses and thistles symbolising the strength of united kingdoms! |
